How to Play Minesweeper

Reveal Safe Squares

Click a covered square to reveal what lies underneath. Each square may contain a number, an empty space, or a hidden mine. Avoid clicking on mines, as doing so ends the game.

Understand the Number Clues

Numbers indicate how many mines are hidden in the eight surrounding squares, including diagonal neighbors. Analyze these clues carefully to determine which squares are dangerous and which ones are safe to open.

Mark Hidden Mines

Use the right mouse button to place a flag on a square you believe contains a mine. On touchscreen devices, use the available marking control or press and hold if supported. Flags help you track hazards and avoid accidental clicks.

Use Logic to Clear the Board

Compare nearby numbers and marked squares to work out your next move. Avoid guessing whenever possible, and use the information already revealed to make safer decisions.

Complete the Puzzle

Your objective is to uncover every square that does not contain a mine. Choose your preferred difficulty and challenge yourself to clear the board with fewer mistakes and better timing.

Controls
